Schools throughout Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta took time out from their busy days of learning to celebrate their families.
The week long celebrations saw such schools as St Joseph’s Primary, Kingswood celebrate with the launch of it’s Kingswood Gallery of Fine Arts filled with family portraits for all to see.
Holy Spirit Primary, St Clair community joined together to celebrate their Family Fun Feast Day which began with a Pentecost Mass, followed by a picnic lunch and a range of family activities with all parents and extended family members.
Taylah in 4R said she liked Family Fun Day because she got to spend time with her family and rated it 5 stars out of 5.
While Victoria in 1W said she "had lots of fun with her mum" and enjoyed starting her day with coding and ending it with lots of fun and laughs.
At St Bernadette’s Primary School, Lalor Park, teachers and students dressed in green and had Catholic Care representatives Cathy Hammond and Ashleigh Green come and visit.
Our Lady of The Rosary, Kellyville capped off their week with infant and primary discos. Where a good time was had by all.
The weeklong celebrations allowed teachers and students to think about their families and how much they mean to them, while also donating money to Catholic Care which provides support services and care to individuals, families and communities in need. You can learn more at www.catholiccare.org.

What a day we had on Friday celebrating the Feast Day of Our Lady of the Rosary. We started the day with a "Marian Gallery Walk", viewing and reflecting on the beautiful artworks children made of Mary, the Mother of God. We then gathered together as a school community to celebrate Mass. After Mass, we enjoyed a special feast day treat, and celebrated the amazing talents of our students with our OLOR's Got Talent Showcase. Thank you to everyone who made it such a special day. It's Feast Week at OLOR, celebrating the feast day of Our Lady of the Rosary (which the Church observes during the school holidays). While there was a bit of rain today, it didn't stop us from getting into our sport activities and games. Rumour has it that even Mr Battikha was spotted practising his golf swing! Our big day of Feast Week will be tomorrow, where we will go on a gallery walk of the Marian artworks created in each grade, celebrate Mass, enjoy a special treat and watch our OLOR's Got Talent Showcase. Parents and friends are invited to join us as we celebrate Mass together at 11:45 am.

It wasn't just students who came to school today... We've had some very special visitors join us in Kindergarten. They have had 6 ducklings hatch so far in their classroom! 🥚 ➡ 🦆 The students were so excited to see some of them hatching today. They are so excited to watch them grow and learn all about their life cycle while learning about Living Things in Science this term. Once the ducklings get a little bigger, Kindergarten will be able to take them outside for some fresh air and exploring.

Today the Church celebrates the Feast Day of Our Lady of the Rosary. We give thanks to God for Mary's example, faith, humility and courage as the mother of Jesus, and for her protection of our parish and school community as our patron saint. In the first week of next term, our school community will engage in a range of activities to celebrate our feast day. In particular, we invite you to join us for our OLOR Feast Day Mass on Friday 16 October at 11:45 am.

Celebrating 40 years of Voice of Youth and the power of student voice
Six Year 6 students from 58 Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese (CSPD) Primary schools came together at St John XXIII Catholic College Stanhope Gardens on 22 September for the Voice of Youth Grand Final, showcasing their public speaking skills through a series of thoughtful and engaging speeches.

After their success at the Diocesan Athletics Carnival, Katerina T, Abigail M and Scarlett E are representing OLOR and Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese today at the MacKillop Region Athletics Carnival, competing against students from across Sydney's northern suburbs, the Central Coast and northern NSW. We recently shared with you the great work our teachers are doing teaching phonics in Kindergarten and Year 1, and the results show it! Earlier this term, we completed the NSW Year 1 Phonics Screening Check, and have seen a big improvement with the introduction of explicit, systematic phonics instruction. This year, 90% of our Year 1 students achieved an 'on track' result, compared to just over 65% last year. Phonics is an important foundational skill for reading and writing, so we're thrilled to see our students making such crucial growth in their learning.

Be an OLOR Road Safety Star! It's easy to be in a rush and drive away, assuming that everyone is clear of your car. Help keep your children safe by checking that car doors are closed, and that your child is either well aware from the car (when dropping off) or inside the car (when picking up) before you drive away.

It's been a big week for our school band. Our senior band entertained us once again at our Friday assembly, and both our junior and senior band performed for parents and carers at a special concert on Monday. Some of the most popular songs were the senior band's renditions of some classic Michael Jackson hits. Should we say that their performance was a 'thriller'? Congratulations to our bands and to our Teaching Services Australia team who do an amazing job working with our band every week.

Thank you to all the parents and carers whom came along last week and participated in our Student-Led Conferences. It was great to see parents and carers learning more about their child's learning, and to see our students identifying areas of achievement, explaining their learning progress and articulating their next steps as learners at OLOR.
