It's the highlight of Year 6 every year - the Canberra excursion!
Last week, Year 6 put their learning about democracy, government into action, visiting Parliament House, the Electoral Education Centre and the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House. They also explored our nation's culture, heritage and history at the Australian War Memorial, Australian Institute of Sport, the National Portrait Gallery, and of course, everyone's favourite Canberra excursion destination - Questacon!
Thank you to our Year 6 students for the positive way they represented OLOR, and to our amazing teachers who worked well outside normal work hours to make the excursion happen - Mrs Luland, Mrs Prince, Mrs Sebbens, Mrs Lee, Mrs Noonan and Mr Battikha.
The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing $30 per student to our school under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.
