The library is an essential resource and information centre in the learning community of OLOR Kellyville.
It informs, educates, entertains and enriches students at all levels. The library contributes to the school’s program for integrating the use and development of information and digital literacy, and the Librarian works collaboratively with teachers to support the learning needs of the students.
The library includes several learning spaces, a multimedia area and quiet areas for reading and storytelling, as well as a large area for independent research.
Each week, the students are able to borrow from the large and varied collection of novels, junior fiction books, picture books and information books. Book Week is celebrated each year with a Book Week Parade, author’s visit and a Book Fair. The students have the opportunity to participate in the Premier’s Reading Challenge each year, as well as other events organised by the Children Book Council of Australia.
The teacher/librarian works collaboratively with staff and students, ensuring they are effective and efficient users of ideas and information as 21st Century learners. The teacher/librarian promotes children’s literature, inquiry-based learning and information literacy, as well as maintaining a strong focus on ICT and the promotion of Web 2.0/3.0 tools that enhance learning across all the Key Learning Areas.
