Schools throughout Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta took time out from their busy days of learning to celebrate their families.
The week long celebrations saw such schools as St Joseph’s Primary, Kingswood celebrate with the launch of it’s Kingswood Gallery of Fine Arts filled with family portraits for all to see.
Holy Spirit Primary, St Clair community joined together to celebrate their Family Fun Feast Day which began with a Pentecost Mass, followed by a picnic lunch and a range of family activities with all parents and extended family members.
Taylah in 4R said she liked Family Fun Day because she got to spend time with her family and rated it 5 stars out of 5.
While Victoria in 1W said she "had lots of fun with her mum" and enjoyed starting her day with coding and ending it with lots of fun and laughs.
At St Bernadette’s Primary School, Lalor Park, teachers and students dressed in green and had Catholic Care representatives Cathy Hammond and Ashleigh Green come and visit.
Our Lady of The Rosary, Kellyville capped off their week with infant and primary discos. Where a good time was had by all.
The weeklong celebrations allowed teachers and students to think about their families and how much they mean to them, while also donating money to Catholic Care which provides support services and care to individuals, families and communities in need. You can learn more at www.catholiccare.org.

It's always great to hear positive feedback! A big part of our learning goal over the past two years to improve reading outcomes for students has been the adoption of the InitiaLit literacy program - first in Kindergarten, and this year in Year 1. Yesterday, we welcomed staff from the Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese Primary Learning team, as well as from program developers MultiLit. They visited our Kindergarten and Year 1 learning spaces, watched our amazing teachers in action and provided feedback on their work. We knew our teachers were doing a fantastic job, but it was great to hear it from other literacy professionals. What's more, the results we are seeing are telling us that as well. We thank CSPD and MultiLit for joining us and affirming what we've known all along - that our teachers are making a difference in our students' learning. The moment finally arrived for Kindergarten today, as we officially opened their new play equipment. Harper and Rafael untied the ribbon before everyone in Kindergarten has the opportunity to play. As we celebrate Teacher Aide Appreciation Week, we say a huge thank you to Ms Agostino, Mrs Cerrone, Mrs Dagher, Mrs Macpherson, Mrs Milas and Ms Stewart, not to mention Mrs Mamae, who is working with us while Ms Agostino is on leave, and our wonderful casual teacher aide staff. Did you know that fluency is an important skill for successful reading? And it's not just about reading quickly! Informed by school-wide assessment data, and our school improvement plan for learning, teachers across the school are implmenting new strategies for improving reading fluency. One strategy that is being used in our classes is buddy reading, where children to listen to each other read and give specific feedback. Our teachers are doing a great job teaching our children what fluent reading sounds like and what to look for, and our Year 1 students are already providing their buddies with valuable feedback!

It was an exciting start to our week yesterday morning, as we opened our new playground equipment! Our school captains cut the ribbon, and grade groups have started visiting the equipment to learn the expectations for safe and respectful play before their scheduled playtime. Thank you to Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese for their support and management of this project, and to Simpson Landscapes and Consultants for their construction work. With a few finishing touches to still to go, we look forward to opening our new Kindergarten play equipment soon.

What a week it has been! Our Book Week celebrations have been filled with excitement, imagination and of course, a whole lot of books! This week Kindy, Year 1 and Year 2 were thrilled to welcome Australian children’s author Pip Harry yesterday, spending time connecting with a real author. Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 enjoyed a fantastic performance by Meerkat Productions, based on this year’s Children's Book Council of Australia Younger Readers Book of the Year - "Inked". Everyone in K-6 has challenged their thinking with the ‘Mystery Picture Book’, uncovered clues to decide who ‘The Masked Teacher Readers' were, explored the wonderful ‘Book Fair’ and watched a funny Reader’s Theatre adaptation of ‘Alpacas with Maracas’ performed by the teachers. From beginning to end, our school has been buzzing with a love of reading and stories. What an incredible way to celebrate our ‘Symphony of Stories’ Book Week 2026!
