Schools throughout Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta took time out from their busy days of learning to celebrate their families.
The week long celebrations saw such schools as St Joseph’s Primary, Kingswood celebrate with the launch of it’s Kingswood Gallery of Fine Arts filled with family portraits for all to see.
Holy Spirit Primary, St Clair community joined together to celebrate their Family Fun Feast Day which began with a Pentecost Mass, followed by a picnic lunch and a range of family activities with all parents and extended family members.
Taylah in 4R said she liked Family Fun Day because she got to spend time with her family and rated it 5 stars out of 5.
While Victoria in 1W said she "had lots of fun with her mum" and enjoyed starting her day with coding and ending it with lots of fun and laughs.
At St Bernadette’s Primary School, Lalor Park, teachers and students dressed in green and had Catholic Care representatives Cathy Hammond and Ashleigh Green come and visit.
Our Lady of The Rosary, Kellyville capped off their week with infant and primary discos. Where a good time was had by all.
The weeklong celebrations allowed teachers and students to think about their families and how much they mean to them, while also donating money to Catholic Care which provides support services and care to individuals, families and communities in need. You can learn more at www.catholiccare.org.

After their success at the Diocesan Athletics Carnival, Katerina T, Abigail M and Scarlett E are representing OLOR and Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese today at the MacKillop Region Athletics Carnival, competing against students from across Sydney's northern suburbs, the Central Coast and northern NSW. We recently shared with you the great work our teachers are doing teaching phonics in Kindergarten and Year 1, and the results show it! Earlier this term, we completed the NSW Year 1 Phonics Screening Check, and have seen a big improvement with the introduction of explicit, systematic phonics instruction. This year, 90% of our Year 1 students achieved an 'on track' result, compared to just over 65% last year. Phonics is an important foundational skill for reading and writing, so we're thrilled to see our students making such crucial growth in their learning.

Be an OLOR Road Safety Star! It's easy to be in a rush and drive away, assuming that everyone is clear of your car. Help keep your children safe by checking that car doors are closed, and that your child is either well aware from the car (when dropping off) or inside the car (when picking up) before you drive away.

It's been a big week for our school band. Our senior band entertained us once again at our Friday assembly, and both our junior and senior band performed for parents and carers at a special concert on Monday. Some of the most popular songs were the senior band's renditions of some classic Michael Jackson hits. Should we say that their performance was a 'thriller'? Congratulations to our bands and to our Teaching Services Australia team who do an amazing job working with our band every week.

It was great to see parents and carers learning more about their child's learning, and to see our students identifying areas of achievement, explaining their learning progress and articulating their next steps as learners at OLOR.

Lewis Last week, OLOR joined schools from across the Hills District for the presentation evening of The Hills-Kellyville Rotary's Club's Writing Competition. Now in its twentieth year, it was a wonderful celebration of writing talent. We congratulate Rajeev, Kate and Matilda, who were acknowledged on the night as our schoool finalists. It's always great to hear positive feedback! A big part of our learning goal over the past two years to improve reading outcomes for students has been the adoption of the InitiaLit literacy program - first in Kindergarten, and this year in Year 1. Yesterday, we welcomed staff from the Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese Primary Learning team, as well as from program developers MultiLit. They visited our Kindergarten and Year 1 learning spaces, watched our amazing teachers in action and provided feedback on their work. We knew our teachers were doing a fantastic job, but it was great to hear it from other literacy professionals. What's more, the results we are seeing are telling us that as well. We thank CSPD and MultiLit for joining us and affirming what we've known all along - that our teachers are making a difference in our students' learning. We are so proud of the work they do every single day.

The moment finally arrived for Kindergarten today, as we officially opened their new play equipment. Harper and Rafael untied the ribbon before everyone in Kindergarten has the opportunity to play.
